Reception have been sharing their experiences of Egremont Crab Fair

and learning more about the traditions of the fair.

They were inspired by an old video of the gurning competition.

The children have been learning about Harvest in assembly.

As part of this season we think about those nearby who are less fortunate than ourselves.

We're asking for donations of tinned and packet food which will go to the Howgill Centre.

Part Time Business Administration Assistant
Salary Cumbria County Council Pay and Grading Structure initially BS4 - £8.8488 per hour

The Governors of St. Bridget’s Catholic Primary School wish to appoint a committed, conscientious person to join the school’s business administration team. The hours are initially 23.5 per week, 8.30am to 3.30pm (30 minutes lunch break) on Mondays and Fridays and 8.30am – 12 noon on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 39 weeks per year (school term time plus one week in school holidays, as directed by the Head Teacher).

The role is varied and will include financial organisation and accounting, procurement, reporting, correspondence and multi-agency liaison.

The successful candidate will be sympathetic to the Catholic ethos of the school, adaptable, resourceful, possess sound understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality and discretion, have confident ICT and numerical abilities and exercise excellent written and spoken communication skills.

Experience of school business administration may be advantageous but is not essential as full training will be provided for the right person.

Breakfast Club is £2.50 for children arriving before 8.50am.

Activity Clubs to 4pm are £2.

Wraparound care is £2.00 PER HOUR.

Even if you pick up at 5 minutes past 4, the charge is £4, because we have to engage staff by the hour.

As I'm not on Facebook I just wanted to contact you to say what an amazing afternoon we had today. So much respect and admiration for the outstanding organisation of the school's summer fete. The staff and everyone involved are just amazing. So much heart and soul in everything you do. I am so proud to be able to say my daughter is a pupil at such a wonderful school. In R.E. Reception are learning about how God created the World. They have been thinking about how they share and look after the World. This afternoon they created a large piece of art to show what God made.

This week Reception have been learning about position and direction in their Maths lessons. They worked together in groups to create a treasure hunt by writing clues using position and direction vocabulary. The teams worked well to solve the clues and find the treasure.

Reception and some of the Nursery children have been learning about the artist Paul Klee who liked to take a line for a walk. The children began by taking a line for a walk on large paper then they created a fish in a similar style

Some of our "Oliver" cast had the amazing opportunity to become real life recording artists on a visit to a professional recording studio this afternoon. Prepare to be wowed!!

Thanks to those parents who could make it to the "Parent Share" drop-in morning. It was nice to see so many parents, even though it was short notice. There will be more opportunities during the autumn term if you were unable to make it this morning. We've received really positive feedback, which is much appreciated

Reception ended a week of work on 'The Rainbow Fish' by spending the morning making their own 'rainbow fish'.

Year 4 enjoyed their visit to the Senhouse Roman Museum

Year 2 enjoyed creating an African Sunset using key skills such as painting, colour-mixing and cutting whilst listening to some African music by Youssou N'Dour - an internationally acclaimed singer/songwriter from Senegal who is famous for combining traditional African music with Cuban rhythms and contemporary music. Some children enjoyed practicing their African dancing to the beats.

Year 2 athletes performed superbly at the Cross Country event at St Joseph's in Frizington.

We took three teams: Team 3 came 3rd and Teams 1 & 2 came joint 1st. Well done!

 Year 2 explored the science behind bubbles. What makes a bubble?

Why are bubbles round? Does temperature affect bubbles?

Why do bubbles pop? Is a bubble really transparent?

We experimented making our own bubble wands with pipe cleaners to see if it was possible to make different shaped bubbles.

Following their visit to Lowes Court Gallery, Year 1 and 2 were asked to make a collage in the style of the artist of the month,

Madeline Warren.

 They followed her theme and created a bluebell a buttercup and a poppy. 
They looked at lots of different materials and textures and even used wax to create a barrier. 
Their work will be displayed in Lowes Court Gallery soon.

Year 2 had a lovely morning at Lowes Court Gallery in Egremont making observations of a range of different art work by local artists. They thought about what they could see in each piece of artwork, what it reminded them of and how it made them feel. It was really hard to choose a favourite!

Year 5 have been learning how to counter-balance. This was challenging placing trust in your partner and working with different heights

Y6 were visited by representatives from the library and archives service to learn more about the life of Alfred Wainwright. They studied artefacts and old photographs from the Lake District and were given the opportunity to recreate some of Wainwright's map and art-work with old-fashioned ink pens.

School Games Sports Day:

A huge thank you to everyone who came to support Nursery and Reception in the very first Early Years Sports Day at St Bridget's.

Great fun was had by all the children. We are immensely proud of their attitude and effort during the races.

Year 6 loved being involved in the Young Citzenship scheme run by Cumbria Police.

They explored issues that affect young people such as E-safety and learning how to be part of their community.

Year 5 enjoyed a visit from Sellafield exploring the properties of materials.

They were challenged to protect an egg using limited resources.

Kian and Jake were the winners managing to protect their egg from the impact.

Our Change for Life after school club enjoyed making creative healthy snacks, such as snails and frogs on logs.

Year 4 enjoyed playing 'Capture the Island' to practise coordinates and perimeter.

They added up their scores mentally to see who was the winner. They also designed their own treasure maps

and swapped with a partner who wrote down the coordinates.

A huge thank you to Shonette Bason from "Spread the Happiness" who came in to our Early Years for the afternoon,

inspiring the children and later inspiring the adults with her motivational talk.

Year one have been practising their throwing and catching skills. They were throwing over arm and under arm.

It's been an exciting day in Reception as the children have watched some of the butterflies

emerge from their cocoons, then later on they watched them feed on fruit.

In year 1 we had a visitor who brought in a drone for us to take some photos of the school from above, as part of our topic
