Year 5 had a wonderful World Book Day and came to school dressed as their favourite book characters. We started the day with a live lesson where we heard from lots of famous people and footballers about how much they enjoy reading and why it is so important. The clear message from everyone was to read something you enjoy.
We then launched our new class book, The Boy in the Tower by Polly Ho-Yen. We analysed the book cover to see if we could interpret what the story might be about. The children shared lots of interesting ideas about why the tower blocks might be falling down and why the boy could be trapped in a tower.
Later, we worked in teams to build spaghetti and marshmallow towers to see who could create the tallest and strongest structure.
We finished the day by sharing stories with Year 2. It was a wonderful day full of creativity, imagination and a love of reading.
