In Science this week, we explored the digestive system with a fun, hands on investigation. Using digestives, bananas, orange juice and a pair of tights, we recreated the journey that food takes through the digestive system.
We mashed food to represent chewing, added water and orange juice to model saliva and stomach acids, and squeezed the mixture through the tights to show peristalsis. We also demonstrated how water is absorbed by the large intestine before releasing the remaining, undigested material.

Our investigation helped us to visualise digestion and practise using key, scientific vocabulary.
