During Science Week, Year 1 became engineers! After reading the story of The Gingerbread Man, we took part in an exciting investigation inspired by engineering fairy tales. The challenge was to help the Gingerbread Man cross the river without getting wet. Working in small groups, the children designed and built their own solutions using only a few materials: paper, card and lolly sticks. They shared ideas, tested their designs and worked together to improve them. We saw some fantastic teamwork and lots of creative thinking as the children explored how to make strong, stable, floating structures to help the Gingerbread Man safely reach the other side.
