Year 5

Year 5 had a great experience learning how to play wheelchair basket ball. They quickly learnt how to manoeuvre the wheelchairs and soon picked up clever tactics in order to score a goal. 
 

Year 5 had a wonderful morning learning rugby skills from one of our parents / rugby coach. They learnt how to throw the ball correctly and attacking and defending skills. 
 

Y5 had a fantastic afternoon at Forest School this week in the frosty weather. They made a fire then melted marshmallows to make s’mores which they all thought were delicious. After playing games in the forest they all enjoyed chilling out in the hammocks.

Year 5 Reading Champions visited the Book Bus today to choose a selection of books for our class. They enjoyed choosing fiction and non- fiction books. They brought them back to class where we all enjoyed having a look at them. 
 

After exploring the forest and squelching in the mud Year 5 enjoyed warming up around the camp fire and eating popcorn at Forest School this week. They also had time to chill out in the hammocks and enjoy the sound of nature.

Year 5 have been studying the artist Hundertwasser and how he created abstract paintings. They learnt that abstract painting is to represent people or things not in a realistic way but to express their ideas about them in their own way. Using this method they created their own Hundertwasser…

At Forest School Y5 made mini Christmas Trees. They found a branch from a hazel wood tree and sawed off a small amount of wood. They used a knife to strip off the bark then whittled the wood into a pointy shape. After this they carved in a pattern and made a leafy texture. Finally, they decorated…

Year 5 visited Egremont library yesterday. They returned books they had previously borrowed then browsed the shelves for something new to read. A lot of children chose Christmas books including cookery and craft ones. They learnt the importance of returning a book to the shelf with the spine…

Year 5 we’re glad of the campfire to keep warm around at Forest School today. They collected the wood and learnt how to build a fire. They then enjoyed toasting marshmallows to make S’mores! 

Year 5 had a great time with their friends at our annual ‘Friendship Disco’ as part of ‘Anti-Bullying Week.’ They enjoyed dancing to their favourite songs and then chilling out chatting with each other enjoying some refreshments. 
 

Congratulations to the Y5 children who took part in a Panathlon today coming in 2nd place. They enjoyed playing a selection of throwing, catching and target games. They all showed excellent Sportsmanship skills and were a credit to our school.

Year 5 had a fantastic time learning how to fence during our workshop. They learnt how to travel forwards and backwards, how to defend themselves and how to attack their opponent. All the children said they enjoyed this new experience.
